According to CNNMoney: “In a report released Monday, executive outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. predicted that more than 1 million jobs would be cut in 2009.

Last week, consulting firm Watson Wyatt said that 23% of companies surveyed in early December plan layoffs in the next year.

The report also said that 39% had already cut their work force – up from 19% in October.”

  1. With all the fraud being uncovered lately, I’m surprised the Universal Service Fund doesn’t address the massive fraud being conducted by Rural ILEC phone companies who are engaged in all types of fraud, from overstating expenses to cross subsidizing monies and employees through fraudulent intercompany accounting. It’s rampant and costs ratepayers and taxpayers huge sums that go into the pockets of family members who happen to inherit a government instituted monopoly. The time has come to abolish “on the take” State run Public Service Commissions whose only regulatory plans seems to be their own personal well being.
