SAP AG said Wednesday it will cut a little more than 3,000 jobs in response to the worldwide economic downturn.

The Walldorf, Germany-based software giant said it will reduce its work force to 48,500 by the end of the year, down from 51,536 at the end of last year. The cuts will enable it to save 300 million to 350 million euros a year starting in 2010, SAP said.

  1. Heard that 1200 people were let go last week in the US. Canada and India are next on the list.

  2. I was let go today at 11:30 AM est. I worked for SAP in BI for over 9 years (2 with SAP). I believe I was one of 600 people today (7 in my own team)…

The severance was nice reg pay till March 26th and 6 weeks thereafter… The market is saturated right now with all the layoffs across the country and I see it getting cut throat and very competitive in an already competive job market. Finding a new job with all the hiring freezes will be somewhat challenging too. I will prob be the next counter guy at Mcdonalds or the towl guy at the car wash – so the next time you are getting a cheese burger or washing the crud of your car rem to yip the guy or be nice – that could be you in the near future!
