Next round of Microsoft layoffs: 872 in March.

According to the Washington State WARN filings, Microsoft is going to lay off 872 employees at Redmond starting March 23rd.

The company earlier announced cutting 5000 jobs within 18 month from January 2009.

  2. This is what we need to do to clean up all the contractors.
    Recently the immigration dept has been rejecting most of the visa’s (new / renewal). One of the reasons given for rejecting the L1 Visas (company to company transfer) is “candidate does not work on proprietary tools”
    L1 visas are only issued if the company in off-shore wants to transfer its employee to US to work on the proprietary tools that no one else or very few have knowledge.
    That is why we are hearing big consulting firms pulling their L1 Blanket visa candidates back to India. Seems like all the blanket visas are now VOID.
    This is what we all need to do.
    If you know any contactor working on L1 visa at the client cite, inform ICE about it. ICE will raid the premises and will investigate.
    Secondly, even H1-B are getting rejected, the reason given is “cannot do consulting on H1B”. I am really shocked with this reason. Well, this is what everybody has been doing.
    You can also provide list of all these candidates to ICE. If possible provide the details of where they work. If you know where they live, ICE will raid the residence.
    You can also complain about fake resume, degree etc.

  4. Is this even true? According to the gov site, it says companies are required to notifiy affected workers at least 60 days in advance.

    But the first round no one was notified.

    Does that mean Microsoft is going aganist the law?

  5. I think in lieu of notification laid of employees are paid severance with taht many months of salary.
    So its like paying advance salary.

    Quest in Columbus Ohio is using TCS services thru their L1 employees .

    The skills whicg are commonly available here.
    now report this to ICE, or point them to this site.

    All Indians gigs,
    TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Syntel, Patni are abusing L1 visa scheme and its a known fact.
    but nobody cares. some senators do some show-offs with media and then its ove, about how they are concerned about this and the propoganda with their letters. It appears a total show off to the public with no results.

    i am worried what will happen if this continues..
