160 Chico teachers to get layoff notices

The Chico Unified School District has begun the process of notifying 160 permanent teachers that they may be laid off at the end of the school year.

The notices are the latest in the district’s effort to tackle a $9 million budget deficit through June 2010. Officials had previously projected a $14.8 million deficit before the newest state budget was approved.
